Before the Tide

Before the Tide explores the quiet interval between stillness and change, capturing the atmosphere of a landscape suspended in anticipation. Developed through layered applications of acrylic and mixed media, the painting combines richly textured surfaces with areas of soft luminosity, allowing light to emerge gradually from within the composition.

A restrained palette of mineral whites, slate greys, deep teal and muted gold evokes the shifting character of the coastline without depicting a specific location. Bold, geometric forms provide a sense of balance and permanence against the openness of water and sky, while subtle variations in texture reveal new details as light moves across the surface.

Rather than recording a particular place, Before the Tide reflects on the emotional resonance of coastal landscapes—the moments of quiet before movement, when memory, atmosphere and landscape become inseparable.
