Threshold III emerges from a place between what is remembered and what has been lost. The work is built slowly through layers of plaster, sand, mineral pigment and acrylic, creating a surface that feels at once architectural and geological. Areas are scraped back, worn away and rebuilt, allowing the painting to carry the physical language of age, exposure and disappearance.

Soft stone greys and pale mineral whites form a quiet, almost suspended landscape. Beneath them, warmer earth tones and delicate fragments of gold surface intermittently, like traces of something preserved beneath the wall. At the centre, a narrow recessed opening draws the eye inward. It does not describe a doorway to somewhere specific, but holds the possibility of one.

There is a sense of stillness within the work — the moment before entering, or perhaps after leaving. The architecture remains deliberately incomplete, offering no clear history and no fixed location. Instead, it becomes a vessel for memory: a place imagined through fragments rather than remembered in full.

The gold leaf is used sparingly, appearing as a subtle interruption within the weathered surface. Rather than decoration, it suggests the persistence of light within something otherwise marked by time.

Threshold III reflects on the quiet spaces we carry with us — places that may no longer exist physically, yet remain present through atmosphere, memory and trace. The threshold becomes neither an entrance nor an ending, but a suspended point between the two.
